Rivendell Pre-Order and Custom Build Process

Rivendell bicycles are built in limited numbers and made available through a small network of dealers, which means planning ahead is an important part of the process. At Ottawa Bike and Trail, we use a pre-order system to help customers secure the Rivendell model and size that best fits their needs while allowing us to build each bike thoughtfully and correctly from the start. This post outlines how our Rivendell pre-order process works, what to expect at each step, and how we collaborate with you to create a complete Rivendell bike that’s ready to ride when it arrives.

We pre-order a small number of frames for each available Rivendell model. Customers interested in a specific model should notify us as early as possible to ensure their bike is included in our pre-order.
If a model is available in multiple colors, customers may request a preferred color; however, color availability cannot be guaranteed.
Customers may reserve a specific model and size with a pre-order deposit of $500.
We will provide estimated delivery dates from Rivendell, but all delivery timelines are subject to change.
Customer pre-orders are for complete bike builds only; frame-only purchases are not available.
Prior to the frame’s arrival, we will schedule a build consultation to discuss your bike build preferences.
Customers may choose from one of our pre-defined build kits, or we can create a custom build based on individual specifications.
For custom builds, we will provide a detailed build sheet, estimate costs, confirm parts availability, and order parts prior to the frame’s arrival.
Customer-supplied parts can be incorporated into the build, though we expect to supply the majority of the components.
Depending on the selected build kit, an additional deposit may be required to cover specially ordered parts.
We will do our best to acquire all necessary parts prior to the frame’s arrival.
