How Tariffs Are Affecting Us — and What It Means for You

How Recent Trade Policy Changes Are Impacting Our Shop — and What It Means for You

With the recent updates to international trade policy, many of our customers are wondering how these changes will affect our shop — and the bikes and accessories you rely on. We’ve been closely monitoring the evolving situation and staying in touch with our suppliers to better understand what’s ahead.

Here’s a breakdown of how the current tariff changes are impacting us at the shop level — and what it means for you:

Prices Are Going Up

While we love selling U.S.-made goods, the reality is that many of the bikes and accessories we carry are manufactured in Taiwan, Vietnam, and China. This has been the industry norm for the past 30–40 years and isn’t likely to change anytime soon.
With new tariffs being added, our suppliers are facing increased costs — and unfortunately, those costs are being passed down the line to us, and ultimately, to you. Even U.S.-made products are affected, as many domestic manufacturers import raw materials and parts that are now subject to tariffs. As a result, most of our suppliers have notified us of price increases across a wide range of products starting almost immediately.

Limited Window Before Bigger Increases

Many of the brands we work with shifted production to Taiwan and Vietnam in recent years. While proposed tariff increases on these countries have been delayed for 90 days (currently at 10%), this gives us only a brief window before larger hikes could take effect. If those increases are implemented, we’ll see even more significant cost jumps on bikes, e-bikes, and parts.

Thinking About Buying? Don’t Wait

We still have a solid inventory of bikes and e-bikes at current pricing. However, we’ve already started receiving notices from suppliers about upcoming price increases.
If you’re considering a new bike, now is a smart time to buy — before prices rise further.

Canadian Shipping Temporarily Paused

To our friends in Canada — we’ve had to temporarily pause shipments across the border due to new tariffs on U.S. goods. In the last two weeks alone, we’ve had to cancel four Canadian orders because of the unpredictability surrounding final costs. These changes have made it extremely difficult to predict final pricing, creating too much uncertainty for both us and you.

While Canadian shipping was a small but growing part of our business, we’ve always loved seeing how having “Ottawa” in our name and our unique product line-up has drawn interest from across the border. We’re actively looking for solutions and hope to resume shipping to Canada in the future.

In the meantime, we recommend checking out an excellent video from Bikepacking.com that highlights how various suppliers across the cycling industry are responding to the new tariffs. It offers helpful insight into what’s happening behind the scenes — and how it affects both shops and riders.

Through it all, we’re staying positive. We’ve weathered big challenges before — including the pandemic — and we’re confident we’ll get through this one, too.
We’re incredibly grateful for your continued support, and we’re proud to be your go-to local bike shop. As always, we’re here to help you stay on the road and keep riding.
