Two NEW U.S.Bike Routes Through Kansas Announced By Adventure Cycling Association
Dec 14, 2024
The Adventure Cycling Association has announced exciting news for cyclists—four new bike routes as part of their U.S. Bike Route System National Corridor Plan. Two of these routes are located in Kansas, and one of them, USBR 55, adds another incredible cycling attraction to Ottawa.
The U.S. Bicycle Route System is a developing national network of officially designated, numbered, and signed routes that use existing roads, trails, and other facilities appropriate for bike travel. It will eventually encompass 50,000 miles of routes and open new opportunities for cross-country travel, regional touring, and commuting by bike. It also benefits communities by providing new bicycle routes, enhancing safety, and increasing tourism and economic activity. - Adventure Cycling Association
USBR 55: North-South Corridor Through Eastern Kansas
USBR 55 is a 288.3 mile, north-south corridor through eastern Kansas and part of a larger network that will eventually allow cyclists to travel from Canada to Mexico. The most exciting feature of USBR 55 is that it utilizes the Prairie Spirit Trail State Park and brings cyclists directly through Ottawa. This new route further enhances Ottawa’s role as a premier destination for cyclists in Kansas. We believe it will boost tourism, drive economic development, and showcase the charm and beauty of our town.
The other new route, USBR 50, connects Nebraska and Missouri with a 40-mile stretch in the northeast corner of the state.
Together, these two routes increase Kansas' total to 883 miles of designated U.S. Bike Routes.
We want thank and congratulate Adventure Cycling Association and the American Association of State Highway Officials for continuing to advance this very important project. We look forward to riding these routes as soon as possible.
